Richard Dannewitz 1925 - 2010
Richard Wayne “Dick” Dannewitz, 84 of Decatur died 1:
30 p.m. Sunday (March 14, 2010) in Decatur Memorial
Hospital.
Dick was born in August of 1925 in Decatur, son of Karl
Richard and Mae Dannewitz. He graduated in 1943 from
Decatur High School. He served in the U. S. Navy from
June of 1943 to August of 1946 and was in the Naval
Reserves from 1946 to 1954. Dick retired in 1985 from
the City of Decatur after serving 20 years as an
Inspector. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran
Church and was Past President of the Breakfast Optimist
Club. In November 1946, Dick married Irma Lorine
Gaffron at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. She
preceded him in death September of 2007.
Surviving is a son, Dr. Stephen R. Dannewitz of Key
Largo, FL. and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 1
sister.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran School
Association.
